Salut! Baroque’s eleventh album, 'From Paris to Versailles', celebrates the glorious music emerging from Louis XIV’s desire to impress the world with French elegance, beauty and charm. The musical road from Paris to Versailles was one of increasing passion, expressiveness and innovation which was revered and imitated throughout Europe. It became hip to be French, and European royalty sent their own Court composers to study the French style, keen to emulate Louis XIV’s courtly opulence. From sublime soprano voices in Leçon de Ténèbres by Couperin and Charpentier to the wild ride of Royer’s harpsichord solo Le Vertigo, From Paris to Versailles is a showcase of the enormous contribution of composers Marais, Couperin, Rameau, Charpentier, Montéclair, Naudot, Corrette and Royer.
